Punjab contingent wrapped up 2nd Quaid-i-Azam Inter-ProvincialGames with a massive aggregate of 151 medals that include 74 gold, 46 silver and 31 bronze medals.
Balochistan finished second with 26 gold medals and an aggregate of 86 medals followed byKhyber Pakhtunkhwa (94 medals including 21 gold, 24 silver and 49 bronze medals) in the 5-day sports extravaganza at Islamabad Sports Complex.
Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada and Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Aamir Jan congratulated Punjab contingent for such a remarkable performance in the federal capital.
Praising the overwhelming performance of Punjab athletes, Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada said Punjab teams outplayed their opponents in all departments. “Our players demonstrated wonderful techniques and skills in all games that literally made their opponent helpless at certain times”.Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada also lauded the contribution of Punjab coaches, trainers, managers and other support staff in this great achievement.
In his congratulatory message, Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Aamir Jan said the awesome performance ofPunjab contingent reflected the true picture of its great talent and
potential. “Punjab players faced some of the best teams in the Quaid-i-Azam Inter-ProvincialGames but they lived up the expectations and managed to bag plenty of medals through some amazing performance,” he added.
Secretary Sports Punjab Aamir Jan further said: “We have found several world class playersin the Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games. These players will represent the country in future national and international events”. He also showered praise on Punjab’s male and female wrestling, athletics, judo and weightlifting teams for winning plenty of medals in the grand sports event.
Punjab clinched two gold and four silver medals on Friday, the last day of mega event. Snooker players fetched one gold and a silver for Punjab while in badminton event Punjab players managed to win one gold and two silver medals. In Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games hockey championship, Punjab had to content with silver medal after losingthe title clash against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on penalty shootouts.
