Continuing their dominating performance in Summer Games 2024, Faisalabad division kabaddi team defeated Gujranwala team by 47-42 in the final to clinch Summer Games 2024 kabaddi title at Punjab Stadium on Sunday.
It may be recalled here that Faisalabad division has also won the volleyball and hockey titles in Summer Games 2024 prior to this event. Overall, a hefty prize money of Rs 25 lakh was distributed among the top performing teams during the three events of Summer Games 2024.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal was the chief guest at the kabaddi title encounter. He also distributed cash prizes, medals and trophies among the players and officials of both the teams. The Faisalabad division team was awarded the winners' trophy and a cheque of Rs 420,000 while the Gujranwala team was given runners-up trophy and a cheque of Rs 210,000.
Director Admin M Kaleem, Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Director Youth Affairs Rana Nadeem Anjum, Divisional Sports Officers Tariq Nazir (Faisalabad), Faisal Ameer (Gujranwala), Rana Hammad (DG Khan), Deputy Directors Ata ur Rehman, Chand Perveen, Chief Sports Consultant Hafeez Bhatti, head of selection committee Tahir Waheed Jutt and other officials were also present on this occasion.
It may be noted here that the competitions of Summer Games 2024 are being organized at different venues of Nishtar Park Sports Complex under the auspices of Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
Talking to media on this occasion, Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal said that the three phases of Summer Games 2024 have been completed quite successfully. “The main purpose of Summer Games was to give exposure to our potential players and tracing talented athletes from all parts of the province”.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal further said that all the participating teams exhibited excellent performance during the three phases of Summer Games. “Several fresh talented players have emerged from the Summer Sports Series. “The talented players of Summer Games will be prepared for national competitions by giving more training in camps under the supervision of qualified coaches”.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal further said that Sports Board Punjab is going to organize Summer Sports Camps of various sports after Eid. “The sports camps of over a dozen games will be organized in the provincial capital Lahore while sports camps of six games will be organised in the other divisions of the province”.
In the final match of Summer Games kabaddi event, Faisalabad division team dominated the game from the initial stages and led the scorecard by 13-9 at the end of first quarter. They were leading by 24-17 and 35-30 at the end of next two quarters before wrapping up the title clash by the final score of 47-42.
Hasnain Tayyab, Farooq Raja, Rana Ghufran exhibited wonderful game for Faisalabad while Sibtain Khan, Rauf Maitla, Naeem Khan and Sajjad Jhara were the prominent players from Gujranwala division.
