Faisalabad division volleyball team thrashed Gujranwala team in straight sets to clinch Summer Games 2024 volleyball title at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex (NPSC) Gymnasium Hall on Thursday.
Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar was the chief guest on this occasion. He also distributed cash prizes, medals and trophies among the players and officials of both the teams. The Faisalabad division team was awarded the winners' trophy and a cheque of Rs 420,000 while the Gujranwala team was given runners-up trophy and a cheque of Rs 210,000.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal, Additional Secretary Sports Farhan Farooq, Director Admin M Kaleem, Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Divisional Sports Officers Tariq Nazir (Faisalabad), Faisal Ameer (Gujranwala), Rana Hammad (DG Khan), Deputy Director Ata ur Rehman, Chief Sports Consultant Hafeez Bhatti, Administrator NPSC Gymnasium Hall Mustafa Shah and other officials were also present on this occasion.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal presented a souvenir to Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar on this occasion.
It may be noted here that the competitions of Summer Games 2024 are being organized at different venues of Nishtar Park Sports Complex under the auspices of Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said that the volleyball event of Summer Games 2024 has been completed successfully. “Really it was an impressive show of top level volleyball. After this event, we are going to organize more thrilling Summer Games events of hockey and kabaddi in the next few days”.
Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said that though Faisalabad division won the volleyball title, this victory is not only for Faisalabad but for all players of Punjab. “Our Scrutiny Committee reviewed the performance of all players minutely throughout the 3-day volleyball event to pick truly talented players for further grooming”.
Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said several talented players have emerged in the volleyball event. “After merit-based scrutiny, the selected athletes will be further trained and prepared for international competitions as per the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The best players will be given opportunities to play at the provincial and national level,” he added.
Faisalabad division team exhibited wonderful game technique right from the beginning of the title clash and won the final match convincingly by 3-0.
Demonstrating excellent form, Faisalabad boys won the opening set by 25-17 comfortably. The Gujranwala team tried their best but they failed to break the rhythm of the aggressive Faisalabad team. Continuing their dominating game, Faisalabad won the next two sets by identical margins of 25-19.
Faisalabad division’s Usman and Talha played a key role in the title victory of their team while Ali Raza and Ali Abbas were the top performers for Gujranwala division volleyball team.
