Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail said that a properly trained and competent coach is no less than a blessing for the athletes and the holding of high-profile coaching courses will have durable and positive impact on the future of sports in the province. He expressed these views while talking to participating coaches of 6-day Level-1 Coaching Course at Institute of Sports Sciences Punjab (ISSP) at Punjab Stadium on Wednesday.
During his visit, Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail inspected the proceedings of Level-1 Coaching Course and interacted with all participating coaches. ISSP Principal Ms Chand Parveen, Chief Instructor Hafeez Bhatti, Instructors Ms Shaista Qaiser, Sajid Ali and Admin Officer Malik Nasir were also present on this occasion.
ISSP Principal Chand Parveen gave a thorough briefing to Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail about the high-profile Level-1 Coaching Course and introduced all the participating coaches.
It may be noted here that Sports and Youth Affairs Department Punjab is conducting high-profile coaching course in which as many as 35 public and private coaches including four females belonging to various sports federations and associations are participating.
Talking on this occasion, Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail said that these high profile courses are being organized enhance and polish the coaching abilities of our coaches as per requirements of modern era. “It is a golden opportunity for provincial and divisional coaches to learn modern techniques and polish their coaching skills. He urged the coaches to pass on the valuable modern knowledge and techniques to the junior coaches and players of their respective areas.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail said that the establishment of Institute of Sports Sciences Punjab will play a key role in the development of sports in the province. “After getting modern training, the skills of our coaches and game of our players will improve to a great extent and hopefully our contingent will be on victory stand in the next National Games,” he added.
On the third day of the course, International Certified Coach Dr Naseeb Ullah Khan, who attained his PhD degree in Exercise Science & Rehabilitation from University of Southern Queensland, Australia, in his insightful lecture taught the coaches about performance testing in sports. He told the coaches about how to perform physiological assessment and sports performance testing.
He said the sports performance tests will help the coaches a lot to get a better understanding of an athlete's body and identify the areas where improvement is required. He also threw light on performance component tests which included cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition.
Nutrition expert Ms Sara Farooqi delivered her lecture on the topic of Nutrition for Athletes. She taught the coaches about how to calculate macro nutrients and calories. Later, all the coaches also participated in a 30-minute written test.
