Club registration campaign vital for growth of true sports culture in the province: Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz

Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that Punjab’s top performing Tehsil Sports Officers in registration process of sports clubs will be honoured at a grand ceremony in near future; he made this announcement while presiding over a high-profile meeting at the National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail, Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Director Youth Affairs Rana Nadeem Anjum and Deputy Director Ataur Rahman attended the meeting in person while all Divisional Sports Officers of the province participated in the meeting through video link.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail gave a detailed briefing regarding registration of sports clubs and formulation of Annual Sports Calendar in the meeting. All Divisional Sports Officers of the province also briefed the meeting about the details of Annual Sports Calendar events in their respective divisions.
Addressing the meeting, Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that there is no doubt that the registration of sports clubs is a unique and most important campaign for the growth of true sports culture in the province. “It is for the first time in Punjab’s sports history that as many as 4800 applications have been received from all tehsils of Punjab for registration of sports clubs”.
Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that through this campaign, genuine sports clubs will emerge to the fore and in this regard the Tehsil Sports Officers (TSOs) of the province have a key role to play. “The valuable contributions of these TSOs will be acknowledged in a befitting manner and they will be rewarded with appreciation certificates”.
Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz further said that a mega sports event will be organized in January and its details will be shared in due course of time. “Besides this we are also going to organize Inter-Division Badminton and Table Tennis events in Nishtar Park Sports Complex in the coming days,” he disclosed.
Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that Punjab Sports Department is taking all possible measures for the promotion of sports among the younger generation. He also directed the officers concerned to make best arrangements for upcoming mega sports events and Inter-Division Badminton and Table Tennis competitions.
Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that U-16 Talent Hunt Programme has a great significance in the promotion of sports in the province. “Sports Board Punjab is taking effective measures for tracing talented players in all game disciplines”.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail on this occasion said that several mega sports events are being planned for the growth of sports culture. “It is our mission to unearth fresh sports talent from far flung areas of the province,” he added.
