Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail has announced that a total of 1,581 sports clubs have been registered so far for the first time in the history of Punjab province. He made this announcement while chairing an important online meeting of all Divisional Sports Officers, District Sports Officers and Tehsil Sports Officers of the province at National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.
Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Director Youth Affairs Rana Nadeem Anjum, Deputy Director Admin Zahoor Ahmed, Deputy Director Attaur Rehman and Assistant Director M Waseem attended the key meeting in person.
Addressing the meeting, Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail congratulated the provincial Tehsil Sports Officers for achieving great success in this historic campaign. “Recommendation of ten most successful Tehsil Sports Officers will be sent to Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Shahid Zaman for awarding cash prizes and appreciation certificates at the completion of this drive,” he added.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail further said that one can witness real change in the sports of Punjab province after the completion of this campaign. “The registration of sports clubs which started on Oct 10 across the province is definitely a major development as per constitution of Sports Board Punjab and this activity has never been done at such a large scale in the past”.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail said that the Tehsil Sports Officers have a major role in completing the process of club registration properly in their respective tehsils. “The sports clubs after registration will be able to receive government funds, prizes and scholarships for top performing players and other facilities besides getting right to organise sports events,” he elaborated.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail said that the Tehsil Sports Officers of the province are being made authorized to promote the sports culture and trace fresh sports talent at grassroots level. “The registration of genuine sports clubs is an effective way for the development of sports in all parts of the province. “Now the elite sports clubs of the province also requested for the registration of their sports clubs after witnessing the highly successful club registration campaign”.
