Wapda edge out Army in thriller to clinch National Men’s Basketball trophy Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail graced the occasion as chief guest

Pakistan Wapda edged out Pakistan Army 73-70 in the nail-biting title clash of National Men’s Basketball Championship 2023 that concluded here at the Govt College University (GCU) Lahore on Friday. Pakistan Air Force (PAF) defeated Lahore by 90-61 in the 3rd/4th position match to claim for third position.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail was the chief guest at the largely-attended final and handed over the winning trophy to the captain of Pakistan Wapda team. DIG Police Ghazi Salahuddin and GCU Lahore Vice Chancellor Dr Ahmed Adnan were the guests of honour and handed over runner-up and third position trophies to Pakistan Army and PAF respectively.
Other notables present on the occasion were PBBF President Brig (retd) Iftikhar Mansoor, Senior Vice President Imtiaz Rafi Butt, Secretary Khalid Bashir and a large number players and students of the university.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail congratulated Pakistan Wapda team for winning the title and also wished good luck to Army team for the future events. He also lauded the excellent game and skills of both the finalists that made the final worth watching and thrilling one.  
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail further said that the Sports Board Punjab has already been taking great initiatives for the betterment of sports in Punjab. “We are also supporting the game of basketball in Punjab and try to hold camps in order to hunt fresh basketball talent from across the province,” he added.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail also distributed souvenirs among former basketball players, officials, coaches and office-bearers. Brig (retd) Iftikhar Mansoor presented a souvenir to Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail.
