Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi will distribute cash prizes among the athletes who achieved top positions in the National Games, Pink Games and other sports events at a grand ceremony in near future. Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz revealed this while talking to media during his interaction with the national chess team which is going to participate in upcoming Asian Youth Chess Championship at National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, President Pakistan Chess Federation Hanif Qureshi, national chess champion Amir Karim and parents of young chess players were also present in the largely attended press conference. The Asian Youth Chess Championship will be played at Al Ain, United Arab Emirates from Dec 12 to 22, 2023.
Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail and his team are making preparations for this grand prize distribution ceremony. Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz said that Sports Board Punjab has also organized a major chess event in Nishtar Park Sports Complex in the past. “We are also planning to organize another big chess event in the province in near future. Sports Board Punjab is taking great steps for the development of every sport in the province”. Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz further said that Sports Board Punjab has prepared a two-year sports development plan which will be announced in near future. He also gave kits to members of national chess players. He expressed his hope that the 15-member national chess team which includes nine players from Punjab will offer excellent performance in the upcoming Asian Youth Chess Championship and return as winners. President of Pakistan Chess Federation Hanif Qureshi on this occasion thanked the  Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz for extending every possible support for the promotion of chess.
