Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi said that sports journalists are playing an important role in the promotion of sports; he expressed these views at a goodwill match played between SJAL XI and UK Media at the Model Town Greens Ground the other day.
CEO Lahore Qalandars Atif Rana, Divisional Sports Officer Tariq Khanzada, District Sports Officer Tanveer Shah, former manager national cricket team Azhar Zaidi, Test cricketers Abdul Rauf and Abid Ali, UK Media skipper Ghulam Hussain Awan, SJAL XI captain Aqeel Ahmed, cricket organizer Shoaib Dar, Sharafat Goga Naqeebia and other key figures were also present on this occasion.
Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up at a colorful prize distribution ceremony. All the members of both the teams were introduced to Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi. He was also presented with a shield on this occasion.
SJAL XI defeated UK Media XI by 35 runs in the exhibition friendly match. Batting first, SJAL XI amassed a total of 196 runs for the loss of six wickets. In reply, UK Media managed to score 161 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi announced that a friendly cricket match will be organized between Sports Board Punjab XI and SJAL XI in near future. He also welcomed the members of UK Media team in Lahore. “The cricket match between Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) XI and UK Media is a positive development,” he added.
