SBP selection committee conducts trials of Sahiwal and Sargodha divisions on second day

LAHORE (August 29, 2021): The trials for the selection of Punjab’s two teams for participation in First Chief Minister Punjab 5-a-Side National Women Hockey Championship continued at the National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

It may be noted here that First Chief Minister Punjab 5-a-Side National Women Hockey Championship is being organized under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab from September 7 to 12, 2021 at National Hockey Stadium.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, in a statement on Sunday said that First Chief Minister Punjab 5-a-Side National Women Hockey Championship is of utmost importance for us and that is why Sports Board Punjab is making excellent preparations for the smooth holding of the grand event.

“Sports Board Punjab has organized several male and female hockey events in the recent past and the sole purpose of these hockey events is to provide sufficient playing opportunities to our potential hockey players so that we can prepare a pool of talented hockey players for our national men and women hockey teams”.

On the second day, the SBP selection committee comprising Deputy Director Chand Perveen, Ms Abda Tanveer, Ms Rahat Khan, Rana Khalid Iqbal and Shahid Nizami conducted the trials of Sahiwal and Sargodha divisions.

As many as 26 players from two divisions Sahiwal and Sargodha participated in the trials. SBP selection committee members observed the trials minutely and selected only talented players purely on merit.

The players from four divisions Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Rawalpindi will turn up for trials on August 30 (Monday) at the same venue.

After the trials, Punjab’s two teams will be announced on August 30 whereas the camp training of selected players will commence the next day at the National Hockey Stadium.

It may be noted here that as many as 12 under-25 teams will participate in the tournament. Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will field two teams each in the tournament while Balochistan, Islamabad, Army, HEC, Wapda and Railways will send one team each for the grand hockey tournament
