Sports Board Punjab (SBP) held an important meeting of representatives of Punjab Sports Associations in connection with preparation of Sports Policy at National Hockey Stadium. The meeting was convened to gain valuable opinions of representatives of Punjab Sports Associations regarding the preparation of Sports Policy. The meeting was jointly presided over by Sports Board Punjab Consultant Dr Ijaz Asghar and Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti.
All representatives of Punjab Sports Associations including Naveed Haider (Football), Salman Iqbal Butt (Athletics), Syed Fakhar Ali Shah (Baseball), Syed Zulfiqar Ali (Archery), Bashir A Gill (Netball), M Nadeem (Karate), Amir Shahzad Butt (Wushu), MB Javed (Volleyball), Rana Zahid (Kick-boxing), Ch Tariq (Boxing), Sh Tariq Hussain (Judo), Mirza Farooq (Jujitsu) etc attended the meeting. Deputy Directors Shahid Nizami, Tariq Wattoo, Assistant Director Raees ur Rehman and Chief Consultant SBP Shahid Faqeer Virk were also present during the key meeting.
Addressing the meeting Sports Board Punjab Consultant Dr Ijaz Asghar said that formation of a compact sports policy is need of the hour. “The sports culture will grow in true sense in the province after the implementation of sports policy,” he added. “The sports policy will be finalized after taking input from all concerned quarters. We are also conducting thorough survey at district and division level to trace fresh talent”.
Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, in his address, said the talented youth of the province will be able to take maximum benefit out of modern sports infrastructure after the implementation of sports policy. “The preparation of sports policy is a remarkable achievement of Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar besides the revival of Annual Sports Calendar programme and Punjab Games after a gap of eight years,” he maintained.
The representatives of Punjab Sports Associations while recording their views said the formation of sports policy is definitely a notable development in the history of Punjab province. “Our players will make their efforts to achieve their goals under a set pattern”.
They further said that it will be a great boost for sports culture in the province. “All the potential athletes will get equal opportunities to grow in their respective sporting careers under the sports policy”.
